Correct use of tools in machining

Correct use of tools in machining

The correct use of tools affects their life and the quality of the machining. In order for them to serve us as long as possible, we must first establish the correct machining parameters and work out some details that are crucial for the entire machining process. In machining centres, we most often come across milling, for which we need long-lasting drill bits. That is why the best solution is to buy high-quality drill bits. This is because high-performance drilling is a process that requires high stability. Moreover, using too low feed rates when drilling deep holes contributes to the destruction of the tools.

Incorrect head geometries and excessive overhangs are important in milling and contribute to wear of the cutting inserts. To prevent this, it is necessary to apply the correct angles of the cutting inserts and the forces they create. In machining, cooling is important for tool life, but is often ignored or neglected. When milling, the coolant should run ahead of the tool to flush out the chips. When drilling deep holes, external coolant can also push the chips into the hole, which in turn can jam the drill bit.

A very important factor in maintaining the life of machining equipment is its reconditioning. As far as drill bits are concerned, such reconditioning can restore their machining properties to 100%. But this is only possible if the tools are not broken, chipped, etc. The cost of reconditioning a tool is very low compared to buying a new tool. If we use the tools wisely, we can significantly extend their life, reduce the cost of buying new equipment and improve the quality of the machined parts.

In our factory, we every day take care of our cutting machines that we use for CNC milling and CNC turning. We invite you to familiarise yourself with our machining and laser cutting offer.
