Processing of stainless steel

Processing of stainless steel

Stainless steel is well known both in industry and in everyday life, as we find stainless steel products in building systems, industrial applications and also in every home. Today, there are more than 100 different grades of stainless steel with different properties available on the market, and there are four main types: austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and duplex (ferritic-austenitic), with austenitic steel accounting for up to 70% of stainless steel production.

The primary method of joining stainless steel is welding. Several methods are currently used to weld stainless steel:

However the processing of stainless steel is not easy. In the production of stainless steel components, cutting is part and parcel of steel processing. Most metal processing plants use CNC laser cutting machines, which are best for this job. After laser processing, stainless steel does not require additional processing steps such as sandblasting or edge grinding, and you can quickly move on to the next stage of the production process, such as welding or painting the component. However, it must be noted that not all grades of stainless steel can be welded - this depends on their chemical composition.

Our company also processes stainless steel up to 20 mm thick. For this, we use our Trumpf laser cutting machine with Fiber source with 6 kW TruDisk laser. We use this laser to process not only stainless steel but also acid-resistant steel (up to 20 mm) and structural steel (up to 25 mm). A new addition to our range of services is laser cutting of steel, which can have a variety of surfaces, from matt to mirror-like.

Companies in the metal industry are welcome to join us for ongoing cooperation in the processing and welding of stainless steel. For more technical information, please contact us on +48 95 762 08 61.

We recommend our laser cutting services.
