Pros and cons of milling

Pros and cons of milling

Milling is the basic machining (material removal) technology. This method is mostly used for machining planes, holes or grooves of various shapes. There are two types of metal milling: co-rotating and counter-rotating. Machines called milling machines are used for this purpose. Numerically controlled milling machines are called CNC milling machines. These types of milling machines operate automatically, and the work is done by a computer-controlled machine. The operator s role is merely to enter the parameters of the material to be processed. This gives us control over the entire production, precision, speed and repeatability.

Pros and cons of milling:

The disadvantages of milling include the time-consuming programming of the equipment, and CNC technology is more effective for the production of a larger number of parts - usually from 100 pieces upwards. On the other hand, for smaller quantities, classic milling is chosen. In our company, we prefer both forms of milling, and for better quality we purchased a vertical machining centre from Chiron 23 (model FZ 18L) from the High Speed series, which has some very important advantages for us, including high productivity and working speed, precision and reliability. The machining field of this centre enables us to mill parts with dimensions of 400x400x2000 mm. Smaller details are made on machines from the Brother TC-32A and Chiron FZ12 series designed for large batches.

We recommend CNC milling.
